Prior to this past Saturday's NASCAR Whelen All American Series program at Riverhead Raceway promoters Barbara & Jim Cromarty announced that they have added the Legend Race cars to the Saturday May 26th portion of the annual Memorial Day doubleheader weekend. To top off the added race for the class which has produced field of 35 and 32 cars over the first two weeks of the season the disclosure was made sweeter when it was revealed that time trials will be used to qualify the starting grid. The Legend Race Cars will join the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series program that will be headlined by the NASCAR Modifieds who for the first time in 2012 will compete in a 35-lap main event distance after the first three weeks found them racing in two Twin 30 and one 100-lap features. The Late Models will run under a new format on May 26th as....Full Story . .... TOM ROGERS JR. ROARS FROM 21st TO SWEEP TWIN 30'S AT RIVERHEAD RACEWAY SATURDAY NIGHT by Bob Finan ... In a performance reminiscent of the late great "Charging" Charlie Jarzombek, Tom Rogers Jr. of Patchogue barnstormed his way from a 21st starting spot to sweep the Twin 30 NASCAR Modified features at Riverhead Raceway Saturday night. Rogers was forced to a back-up car when his Relay Communication Chevy suffered an broken axle as he was about to take time forcing him to his family owned car and having to start in the last row of the 22-car field. For the second week in a row Dave Brigati set fast time with a lap of 11.840 and in a new twist Riverhead officials had "The Fancy Farmer" draw a pill to seer if the field would start straight-up or the top six would redraw. Brigati picked a redraw but low and behold drew the pole with Howie Brode pulling the outside pole. At the drop of the green in the first 30-lap segment Brigati....Full Story . .... EYE ON RIVERHEAD: 05/08/12 by Bob Finan ... Opening weekend at Riverhead Raceway is now in the record books and when all was said and done some 480 laps of feature event racing was presented by Barbara & Jim Cromarty in a 24-hour span! This coming Saturday May 12th will mirror this past Saturday with 180-laps of scheduled main event racing including the Twin 30's for the NASCAR Modifieds. Some 29 NASCAR Modifieds signed into the pits this past Saturday with 26 taking time after three teams scratched (Justin Bonsignore, Al Ermmarino & Marisa Neiderauer) with "The Fancy Farmer" Dave Brigati #98x setting fast time with a lap of 11.805 in his Outlaw Inc Chevy. Eddie Brunnhoelzl III in his Senix Creek Inn Chevy won the first 30-lap segment for the Whelen All-American Series points and heading into the final 30-laps looked to be the car to beat. TIMMY SOLOMITO TAKES SECOND CONSECUTIVE RIVERHEAD RACEWAY OPENING NIGHT NASCAR MODIFIED VICTORY by Bob Finan ... "The Natural" Timmy Solomito of Islip scored his second straight opening night victory when he topped the second segment of the Twin 30 NASCAR Modified features this past Saturday night at Riverhead Raceway. The win was a very emotional one for the young talent as he dedicated it to Keri & Jason Trinca Jr. who tragically lost their lives last October in a motor vehicle accident. In pre-race time trials Dave Brigati blistered the track with a lap of 11.805 but in the redraw among the top six from time "The Fancy Farmer" drew 4th while Ed Brunnhoelzl III and Howie Brode picked the front row. Brunnhoelzl wasted little time jumping into the lead with Timmy Solomito who started third racing under Brode quickly for second with Tom Rogers coming to third. Round two of the pre-season test & tune practice days is now history and like the first afternoon was very successful. Going into the opening weekend this Saturday and Sunday excitement is at an all-time high for the start of another season at Barbara & Jim Cromarty's famed oval. Record fields for the NASCAR Modifieds and Legend Race Cars could very well be in order and with that in mind Co-Chief Stewards Mike Cappiello and Steve Tooker have announced that the pit gates for Saturday's opener will swing open at 11:00 am. This to allow Handicapper Christie Harris ample time to get everyone park and situated before practice. It is quite possible that the auxiliary pit area might be needed for the first week!
