The first racing event of the 2017 season at Riverhead Raceway will take place Sunday afternoon April 9th as Eddie & Connie Partridge and Tom Gatz present the first ever Snow Melt Enduro program at the historic quarter mile oval. Heading into the new season two Enduro classes have undergone a name change as the former Grand Enduro division will now be known as Street Stocks, while the 4/6-Cylinder Car class will now be tabbed the Mini Stock division.

During the off season track GM John Ellwood along with his technical inspection staff headed up by former racer Randy Murray spent countless hours cleaning up language in all rule books at Riverhead Raceway for the upcoming 2017 race season.

Ever since their inception the Grand Enduro machines have resembled Street Stock type cars that race in the Northeast and in Ellwood and Murray's eyes renaming the class Street Stocks made perfect sense. With the name change comes some minor rule adjustments that can be found by visiting www.riverheadraceway.com and clicking onto the rules link.

The 4/6-Cylinder cars move to Mini Stocks also "made sense" according to GM John Ellwood, there too teams can find some minor rule adjustments for 2017. As for the 8-Cylinder, Trucks and Gut & Go Enduro classes no name changes are forthcoming for 2017 but some minor rules changes were made for the new season. The Mini 8 class will follow the Mini Stock rules.

Dave Antos of Lindenhurst won the 2016 Grand Enduro title and will lead the class into a new season of racing as Street Stocks, with Steve "The PItbull" Trimboli of Freeport doing the same in the Mini Stock class. Brian Halsey of Southampton will come to 2017 as the defending 8-Cylinder champion with Don Nelson Jr. of Rocky Point out to defend his 2016 Truck Enduro crown. Popular Donald "Woot" Lawrence of Southampton took the 2016 Gut & Go Enduro title and he'll be ready for the Snow Melt card on April 8th as will 2016 Mini 8 champion Brandon Esposito of Farmingville.

The pit gates will open at 10:00 am Sunday April 9th with racing starting at 12:30 pm. GM John Ellwood did state that there will be NO practice time for NASCAR or INEX stock cars prior to the Snow Melt Enduro program! Those teams will have to wait for the two pre-season practice days at Riverhead Raceway Saturday April 22nd and April 29th.
