When the opening night Blunderbust feature event takes the green flag at Riverhead Raceway Saturday night May 6th, Wayne Meyer of Flanders will restart his driving career after a eight year hiatus from the sport. Meyer not only recently announced his comeback but also an impressive array of both primary and associate sponsors that will back his return to racing.

"I have one goal as I return to the Blunderbust class full time in 2017" Meyer offered, "to win my first feature in the class that I started my career in". Wayne, now 42 started racing with the Blunderbusts in 1998 and ran a part time schedule through the 2005 season. After a couple of years off Meyer then spent two seasons with the Super Pro Truck class at Riverhead where he scored two wins, one in 2007 and one in 2008.

It was shortly after that life itself would put Wayne's racing on hold when his father Craig passed away suddenly. Wayne recalled, "when Dad passed I had to take care of Mom. Move her back to New York, built her an apartment in my house and all so racing was not reality at the time and I sold the truck". Wayne's Dad was an accomplished Riverhead Raceway driver having won 11 times across three divisions at the Route 58 oval from 1977 through 1984. It was watching his father race that Wayne caught the racing "bug".

"I'm happy to announce that Farm-Rite Inc, a authorized Kubota Tractor dealer will join Long Island Poultry as our primary sponsor for 2017" Wayne announced. "I also have to thank my girlfriend Jessica, my ex-wife Jamie, Brian Brown, James "Sporty" Carragher as well Justin & Nick Squires for helping me get back behind the wheel". Late last season Wayne Meyer and his team purchased the former Terry Stiles Blunderbust car that had been raced most recently by Chris Busick.

Additionally Meyer disclosed several local firms will serve as associate sponsors his #88 racer in 2017, "the 14.5 MC of Flanders, Nielsen's Garage of Moriches, Wedel Signs of Riverhead, Sujeki Farm & Nursery of Calverton, CPM Motorsports & Motorcycle Repair of Coram, All Island Concrete Pumping of Holbrook, Outdoor Expressions of Moriches, Hampton Financial of Hampton Bays, Twin Fork Accounting & Tax Service of Riverhead, Roadwork Construction of Hampton Bays, Sister Red's Farm of Shoreham and 78 Foster Restaurant of Hampton Bays will also be part of our team" Wayne then joked, "I had to stop signing sponsors, I ran out of room on the car".

Wayne Meyer and his quest for his first career Blunderbust feature event win begins when Riverhead Raceway presents their NASCAR Whelen All American Series opener on Saturday May 6th. Joining the Blunderbusts will be the NASCAR Modifieds, Late Models, Eagle Auto Mall Modified Crates, Super Pro Trucks and INEX Legend Race Cars.
