RIVERHEAD RACEWAY REVEALS NEW DEMOLITION DERBY PAYOUT PROCEDURE FOR SATURDAY NIGHT & 2026
Riverhead Raceway Genral Manager John Ellwood announced Wednesday the track will introduce a new payout procedure Saturday during the final 4/6-Cylinder Demolition Derby, a procedure that will carry into 2026 and beyond. The 4/6-Cylinder Demo will conclude a bust night of racing that is highlighted by the Sara Sylvester INEX Legend Race Car National Qualifier 50.
In a collaborative effort between track management and Demolition Derby teams both sides acknowledged the expense of buying and preparing a Demo car has risen over time and the new procedure will help teams offset those costs. Ellwood explained the new payout policy, "we will pay $100 per car to the winner of a 4/6-Cylinder Demolition Derby up to $1,500, with the runner-up and third place finishers also awarded prize money, through a formula to be determined". Looking further down the road, Ellwood disclosed, "with this new, exciting payout procedure in place we'll also be increasing the number of Demolition Derby events for 2026, we hope to announce that schedule soon, really soon."
Among those readying cars for Saturday night's slam feast are the Palmeri brothers of Lindenhurst, John and Joey Jr., the Zukowski brothers of Riverhead, CJ & Ryan, former World & National champion Jason Savoy of Lake Panamoka, Sean Adler of Levittown plus the father & son pairing of George & Charles Astacio of Shirley. With a 4/6-Cylinder Enduro proceeding the Demo event, some last-minute entrants may decide to join in on the fun!
Aside from the Sara Sylvester 50 for the INEX Legend Race Cars, also paying a hefty $1,500 to win plus lap money, the Late Models, TK Figure Eights, Mini Stocks, Truck Enduro 4/6-Cyliner Enduro and JuiceBox Racers join the Demo Saturday.
Qualifying for the INEX Legends starts at 5:15 PM, opening ceremonies are set for 6:15 PM followed by the JuiceBox Racers event. Adults $30, kids 6-12 $20, 5 & under free.
