WEATHER RUINS RIVERHEAD RACEWAY MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND PLANS, FIREWORKS MOVE TO JUNE 6TH

For the second time in May, weather has interrupted the NASCAR Local Racing Series powered by O'Reilly Auto Parts plans scheduled for Saturday at Riverhead Raceway. With an expansive coastal system parking over the eastern half of the country track management was left no choice but to cancel the Memorial Day weekend program on Friday afternoon. The Fireworks spectacular planned for Saturday now shifts to June 6th.
"We seem to be on a every other week deal with the weather folks" GM John Ellwood quipped while making the announcement, "that's the bad news. The good news is we are moving the Special FX Wizard Inc. fireworks performance to June 6th" Ellwood furthered. Another victim of the projected wet weather Saturday was America's Military Services Night & Scout Night, but Ellwood provided positive updates on those fronts as well. We'll also move Scout Night to June 6th, where it will join the regularly scheduled Local Sports League Night, so Scouts and Sports League members in uniform get in free. The America's Military Services Night and 50% general admission discount to active or retired service members with valid ID also slides over to June 6th". As to any makeup dates for divisions who have lost races to the rain Ellwood concluded, "right now there are no plans to make those races up".
On track action planned for Saturday June 6th include the Buzz Chew Chevrolet NASCAR Modifieds, Eagle Chevrolet Crate Modifieds, INEX Legend Race Cars, Mini Stocks, 8-Cylinder Gut & Go Enduro, the debut of the new 4/6-Cylinder Figure Eight class and the first Demolition Derby are on the menu. The kids will be in action as well with a JuiceBox Racers and Kids Big Wheel Race taking place. Opening ceremonies are tentatively set for 6:30 PM.
