SEVERE POP-UP STORM HALTS BALDWIN, EVANS & JARZOMBEK 77 PROGRAM FRIDAY AT RIVERHEAD RACEWAY AFTER QUALIFYING
An area of severe weather suddenly spread across Long Island Friday evening making its way east to Riverhead Raceway just after qualifying was completed for the Baldwin, Evans & Jarzombek 77 for the Buzz Chew NASCAR Modifieds. The system, not forecasted by local weather experts until it was too late included dangerous lightening and a deluge of rain reminiscent of a July style Florida pop-up storm.
Riverhead Raceway officials announced shortly after the onslaught of rain the Baldwin, Evans & Jarzombek 77 would move to next Friday August 14th replacing the regular 50-lap event planned with the annual Cromarty Wall of Champions induction of Howie Brode and Danny Grennan also delayed until next Friday. Owen Grennan of Glen Cove was quickest in qualifying with a lap of 11.654 earning the HighMark Building Efficiency Fast Time award, a free Hoosier Tire. Justin Brown of Manorville was second in time at 11.666 with Chase Grennan of Glen Cove third at 11.697. The 15-cars that qualified before the rain are locked into the make-up date for next Friday, any cars not on hand for qualifying can join the Baldwin, Evans & Jarzombek 77 starting 16th and back. Any driver changes among the 15 teams already qualified would find that car starting at the rear of the qualified cars.
The Late Model, Super Pro Truck and Eddie Partridge Vintage All Star events washed out by the storms will be made up on dates to be announced. Track management is communicating with those teams seeking a suitable plan for all involved. The loss of racing Friday was the fifth time in 2026 Riverhead Raceway has lost a show or parts of a show due to weather,
Complementing the Baldwin, Evans & Jarzombek 77 and Cromarty Wall of Champions induction next Friday August 14th are the Eagle Chevrolet Crate Modifieds, INEX Legend Race Cars, Mini Stocks and a Truck Enduro. Pit windows will open at 5:00 PM, pit gates swing open at 5:30 PM. General admission windows open at 6:30 PM, qualifying is set for 7:30 PM, opening ceremonies at 8;15 PM. Spectators who received rain checks while exiting the track during the storm may use those for this event or an event of equal value. Pit wrist bands from the rain out will be honored upon the next visit as well.
