RIVERHEAD RACEWAY CONTINUES RIDE WEATHER STRUGGLE BUS WITH FRIDAY AND SATURDAY RAIN OUTS

There is little doubt the 76th season of racing at Riverhead Raceway will go down as one of, if not the wettest in history after inclement weather halted both the Friday night and Saturday evening NASCAR Local Racing Series Powered by O'Reilly Auto Parts programs. Track officials announced the Baldwin, Evans & Jarzombek 77, washed out for the third Friday in a row will be made up on a date to be announced, while the School Bus Demolition Derby rained out Saturday moves to this week August 29th.
No longer mincing words concerning weather, Riverhead GM John Ellwood simply stated, "it sucks" when talking about the lost weekend that brings the total of rain outs to eight for 2026. "While we have stats on all-time winners and champions, not really sure if anyone tracked rain outs, so we can't say with certainty that eight is the most, but it's got to be close". With the Buzz Chew Chevrolet NASCAR Modifieds scheduled for an off-weekend August 28th and 29th, Ellwood indicated he and his team would gather information as to when the Baldwin, Evans & Jarzombek 77 will be contested. "We will look at all options, adding the 77 to an existing date or perhaps adding a date." John hinted. The Cromarty Wall of Champions induction of Howie Brode and Danny Grennan will remain part of the Baldwin Evans & Jarzombek 77.
The final School Bus Demolition Derby of 2026 shifts to this Saturday August 29th, fans who bought tickets in advance for the Saturday rainout can use those tickets for the make-up date. The Back-to-School Bus Demo joins an exciting program Saturday headlined by the annual Sara Sylvester Memorial INEX Legend Race Cars National Qualifier 50. Also in action are the NASCAR Late Models, Super Pro Trucks, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Truck Enduro and a Figure Eight Train Race.
Prior to the Saturday action, Friday August 28th Riverhead Raceway will host the Two for TK Twin 9 Figure Eight events that were rained out earlier in the summer. The TK Figure Eight will run two 9-lap feature events as they celebrate the life and racing career of the iconic Tom Kraft, a lifelong ambassador of Figure Eight racing as a driver, car owner and NASCAR official. Complementing the Two for TK Twin 9's Friday are the Eagle Chevrolet Crate Modifieds, INEX Bandoleros, plus a 8-Cylinder Enduro and a 4/6-Cylinder Enduro. Track officials announced recently the 8-Cylinder Enduro will be the Dwayne Sipila 66 honoring the memory of a Enduro pioneer who recently passed away.
Race fans who hold rain checks from the two interrupted shows on Friday August 7th and August 14th can use those for the upcoming weekend, while race teams still holding pit wristbands from those nights will have those honored upon their next visit.
